On the south beach of Kobe Rokko Island, in a 14 hectare area, opened the first stage of a water amusement development, Splash Garden in July 1991. Along with the world`s largest water slider, a flowing river pool, café, restaurant and locker rooms complete the facility.
The theme of our lighting design was to symbolically illuminate the water slides at night to differentiate them from the surrounding facilities. During the day, the huge water slides radiate with natural sunshine, but at night they are lit from inside creating a reversal of light and shadow. Surrounding facilities mainly use warm-color temperature, high-pressure sodium lamps, however we illuminated the water slider with contrasting, cool-colored, metal halide lamps to further emphasize its dominating presence.
