This was a preservation and restoration project for a 100-year old historical building. Facing the front, the building consists of a clock tower in the center, a concert hall on the right, and theatre on the left. Guided by the concept of communicating “Old meets New” with light, the lighting design employs methods suitable for both the historical appearance and new design and that draw attention to their presence in the same place. The elaborate motifs and traditional look of the chalk façade is fastidiously illuminated in warm light, while the newly added spiral staircase for the concert hall and theatre timber seat box interior façade appear in bright relief through the glass enclosure. In this way, the latest lighting technology announces a new beginning for a historical building well-known to the public.
