Historically, Tsushima assumed the role as a point-of-communication with the mainland Japan and other parts of Asia. This period of history is chronicled in an authentic collection of family scrolls that is the main exhibit in this museum. The core of the display and storage area has a large volume of space reminiscent of the warehouse design that used to store these original documents. The ceramic tiles covering this core are a reference to slabs of stone regularly used in Tsushima architecture. Lighting design highlights the rough texture of the material, creating dramatic experience of the space.
