The Supreme Court building was built as a new landmark in Singapore’s civic district, an area with preserved historical architecture. Our design theme for this multi-purpose facility partially open to the public focused on harmonizing the authority embodied by the court and the spirit of openness and transparency. In addition, we used the most advanced technology available at that time to produce a plan with the flexibility to accommodate future expansion. Just as a toplight brings in abundant natural light deep into the space during daytime, we endeavoured to create a comfortably bright spatial envelope at night that loses none of the sense of openness experienced in the day.
