This museum with a gorgeous curved exterior on the shore of Lake Suwa exhibits traditional everyday items of the culture around the lake.
We wanted a lighting design that thoroughly conceals the presence of lighting fixtures and naturally highlights the architecture’s carefree form. The exterior at twilight emphasizes the warm light radiating from the interior while a narrow angle spotlight 50-meters distant casts the curved roof in an elegant glow.
The ceiling of the exhibit room is a three-dimensional curved surface finished in 100mm-wide strip flooring with one of the strips serving as a slit within which fixed-point spotlights are installed.
