Pachinko is one of the Japan’s most popular recreational arcade games. The client invited female architects to take part in a design competition with the idea of promoting pachinko as a more wholesome game.
We built light contrivances that exploit the materials of the building’s 42.5 meter long rectangular glass façade facing the street and change its appearance in a variety of ways. The wall washer light cast on the yellow wall has a dimmer control that creates a light reservoir whose light flits quickly across the entire wall in-sync with the speed of cars passing by on the street. In addition, the “KINBASHA” logo affixed to the glass is highlighted with variety of changing light effects that add an artistic flourish to the logo’s advertising role.
