This large multi-use complex includes a hotel, cultural center, department store, select shops, restaurants and bars. From the ground floor plaza to the roof garden, six floors of three-dimensional structure look like building-blocks, with unique wondering corridors, a diagonally cut atrium, and an overlapping, folded Teflon membrane roof are features highlighted by our one-of-a-kind light environment.

The lighting design includes the centrally located atrium and public space, façade, and landscape. The lighting design aims to create “luring light”, “elevating light”, and “comfortable darkness”. The sparking floor of a foot bridge and embedded luminous axes effectively stimulate visitors onward with the illuminated Teflon membrane roof creating an elevated feeling in the atrium. As people come and go, lighting from the top of the atrium, way beyond human-scale, adds and reduces ambient light as needed in strategic areas, creating a sense of comfortable darkness. The 150m tall façade is softly illuminated creating a new symbol in the Hiroshima nightscape.
