Louis Vuitton at Marina Bay Sands 2011

Surpassing even the excitement of recent years brought by the ongoing development of the Marina Bay Sands district, Louis Vuitton has opened a strikingly original, large-scale island-style shop right on top of the water. Guided by the concept “Elegant illuminated Boat,” we sought to create for this novel building a sophisticated light scene that also harmonizes with its surroundings. For the extremely porous sunshade specified by the architect to both regulate daytime light and reveal the shop interior at night, we tested numerous large-scale mock-ups that led us to a lighting scheme that conveys the energy within the shop when seen close-up but at a distance appears as a solid object.
