Saitama New Urban Center is a large-scale redevelopment project that includes a sports arena, art museum, offices, accommodations, and a hot spring. A plaza located in the center of the development, Keyaki Hiroba has 220 keyaki trees planted in a dense grid designed by innovative landscape designer Peter Walker. We worked out a detailed design that does everything possible to embed lighting design details into the landscape and building design.
This painstaking effort achieves a plaza completely free of public safety pole lighting, which was motivated by concern over unneeded light poles marring the beautiful daytime scene created by the rows of keyaki trees.
