This small art museum in Shamijima, Kagawa Prefecture was built to exhibit the work of Japanese artist Kaii Higashiyama. This serene building faces the Seto Inland Sea and has a view of the great Seto Bridge. At the end of each day, the building’s imposing slate gray wall extending like a marker between the park and sea shimmers amid magnificent nature as it absorbs the rays of the sun setting on the horizon of the Inland Sea. Before long, spotlights gently illuminate the contours of the wall as the sky is enveloped in a deep blue shroud.
The lighting in the gallery, meanwhile, is designed to spontaneously draw the viewer towards the artwork, with special attention paid to a color temperature that compliments the artist’s unique color palette.
