With a total area of 7,260,000㎡ in Kamitsue Town Oita Prefecture, this large redeveloped site and facility is the first Japanese participation-style circuit with a FIA certified race course. The 4,674m race course is surrounded by hotel, art museum, and other sport facilities for a total circuit resort. As requested by Japan Autopolis, from August 1990 for 13 months, LPA supervised the design development, re-examination, and modification of the entire facility.
The design included functional lighting necessary for the circuit, but also choreographed lighting to differentiate the resort area of the site. In October 1991, the basics of the lighting design and system were completed with much anticipation regarding the lighting effects during business and operation hours.
