This villa-style resort located in Uluwatu on the southern tip of Bali sits atop a cliff overlooking the sea, giving guests a direct view of the sea. The design achieves a fitting and pleasant resort light environment with minimal illumination guided by a “minimum light” concept that makes the most of surroundings much darker than in an urban setting. Rather than rely solely on the natural warmth of incandescent lamps, we also used other ecological light sources such fluorescent lamps and LED and made ample use of techniques such as ambient lighting based on a thorough analysis of their compatibility with the architecture’s exterior color and materials. Our goal was to create a new kind of resort light environment that merges candlelight and LED.
