W Hotel built in the tower of Hong Kong’s Kowloon Station complex has the stylish design characteristic of the hotel brand. We aimed for sophisticated, high-quality light that would be a clear departure from the vaunted gaudiness of Hong Kong’s million dollar nightscape.
The building’s podium includes an atrium that appears amid the urban landscape as a colossal glass box. To compliment the interior design concept of “forest,” our lighting design motif for the space was “fireflies alight among the trees.” Novel light filters produced by LED lights appear as little sparkles of light from inside the room while from outside they form am immense façade of glittering light that dazzles passersby.
