Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum Tenji-kura opensDec . 10 . 2024
The 1860s-era rice storehouse at the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum has been reborn as a gallery dedicated to showcasing Akari light sculptures. The entrance’s luminous wall pays homage to the design of the shoji screens created by Isamu Noguchi. Akari lamps with a diameter of two meters cast rich shadows within the room thanks to light-blocking panels on the upper and lower openings. Inspired by Noguchi’s words, “The flame of a candle has a human appeal,” we have incorporated flickering lighting into the design. Guests can immerse themselves in the dramatic play of light that shifts over time, and while touching upon the essence of light that Noguchi entrusted to washi paper, they can embark on a journey to discover a new world.
